"Don't go chasin' melancholy dreams
Tell me what it means
Don't go lookin' in my eyes tonight
So don't go promisin' the skies to night
'Cause you're crazy
Yeah, you're crazy beautiful"
"Crazy Beautiful" - Hanson
Stepping off the plane onto the sand feels
like paradise. Here I am, 19-years-old, married to the girl of my dreams, and we're
expecting our first child within a matter of months. I can't believe this! I'm going to be
a dad. Wow.
"Taylor?"
Natalie glances up at me with a smile on her face.
"Yeah?"
"Are you scared?"
We step into the hotel lobby and check into our suite, yes, the honeymoon suite.
As soon as we're standing in front of the door, Natalie throws her arms around my neck and
kisses me.
"This is strange." She says with a laugh.
I gently lift a strand of her dark brown hair away from her chocolate colored eyes. Her
small dimples begin to show again as her lips curve into a soft smile.
"I know it is
but this is what we both wanted, right? All I care about is that
you're happy."
She continues smiling at me, as if this, our time here, before we become parents, will
never end.
"I am happy, Tay. I don't care what other people say about me or us. I love
you."
"I love you, too." I whisper.
After a few more minutes, I finally open the door to our suite, only to find red rose
petals, candles and a huge basket full of cards and bottle of champagne sitting on the
large table.
Natalie gasps at the sight of the room.
"Oh, my gosh
so this is what our parents were up to."
I can't help but laugh.
"Apparently."
Digging through the basket after closing the door, I find the card that our parents left
for us that reads:
June 15, 2002
Dear Taylor and Natalie,
We all just want to wish the two of you the best of luck in your marriage and hope that
you will learn to trust each other more than you already do and learn to depend on each
other for comfort when things don't go so well. That's what marriage is all about: finding
the right person, knowing you have, and working together to make a strong, loving
relationship, which we all know you two have. Now that you're husband and wife as well as
parents-to-be, we just want you both to know something: we'll always be there for you
whenever you need help with things and hope that you'll learn to become good and caring
parents, and knowing you, Taylor and Natalie, you'll succeed.
The best of luck to both of you and enjoy your stay in Hawaii.
Love,
Moms, Dads, Matt, Jessie, Avie, Mackie and Zoë.
Natalie turns to me, still smiling and softly kisses my cheek.
"See? They understand."
"They should, considering we were
caught
so to speak
doing a
very---"
"Naughty thing?" She finishes my sentence and continues to kiss me, her warm
hands gently massaging my back.
"Mmm
We should go out to dinner or something."
My wife laughs again.
"Do you want to?"
I pull away.
"Sure. As long as I get another
kiss before we go."
She giggles and kisses me again.
"Fine, then."
I pull away just as her lips near mine, making her smile appear again.
"Will you stop it?"
She tries again and I keep teasing her with a kiss on the cheek instead.
She grins at me and turns to walk away.
"Ok, fine. Be that way."
I laugh and gently grab her by the arm, pulling her back towards me
and we're back to
where we started: standing in the middle of the rose petal strew floor, nose to nose.
"Come here
I love you, Nat."
She kisses me.
"I love you, too, Tay."
"See? And I know that. I don't care what other people say about me or us."
She grins, looking almost irritated.
"Can we go now?"
I nod and steal one last kiss before opening the door again.
"Yeah."
She giggles and kisses me once more.
"Hm-hmm. Fine, then."
As she pulls away, I move closer, planting a soft kiss on her nose.
"I really do love, you know that?"
She nods.
"Yeah, I do. I love you, too,
pretty eyes."
